Marie MacSweeney was born in Dublin of Kerry parents.

Her poetry chapbooks are Mother Cecily’s Music Room (Belfast, Lapwing, 2005); and Flying During the Hours of Darkness (Lapwing, 2009), which includes her translation of Caoineadh Airt Úi Laoghaire.

Her short stories are collected as Our Ordinary World and Other Stories (Victoria, Canada, Trafford Publishing, 2004).

She is a winner of many awards for her short stories, including the Francis MacManus award (2001).

She has also broadcast her radio scripts, and written essays for the Historical & Archaeological journals of both Meath and Kerry.

She lives in Drogheda.
