Leontia Flynn was born in Belfast in 1974.

She was awarded an Eric Gregory Award in 2001.

Her collections are These Days (London, Jonathan Cape, 2004), which won the Forward Poetry Prize (Best Collection of the Year) in 2004, and was shortlisted for the Whitbread Poetry Award; Drives (Jonathan Cape, 2008); and Profit and Loss (Jonathan Cape, 2011).

She has also written a PhD thesis on the poetry of Medbh McGuckian.

She is a is Research Fellow at the Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry, and lives in Belfast.
